how does impro studio work?

At impro studio, we work with individuals, groups and organisations to provide people with opportunities for improvised play. We offer creative, playful, and carefully crafted spaces.

impro studio's activities are created and directed by Angelina Castellini. Angelina collaborates with many different practitioners from a wide variety of practices.

Everyone who works with impro studio brings with them a wealth of skills and methodologies that we combine to create a rich blend of colours, tones and flavours of improvisation. We love what we do! We have experienced the benefits of what we share in our own lives and hope that it will be helpful to others.

All of our content and activities are delivered in ways that are easy to understand and robust. They can be engaged with in multiple manners and provide opportunities for mutual learning. We mix individual work with small and large group activities.

There are many different pathways to learning how to relate more spontaneously to daily life and work. We know that all of our participants bring improvisation skills with them, even if they are unaware of them and rarely use them deliberately. Our craft focuses on curating spaces for the intuitive creative potential of our participants to reveal itself and for improvisational processes to occur naturally.

Bottom line: we offer support while you make things up as you come along.

accessibility

impro studio strives to make its activities accessible for as wide a variety of people as possible.

Whoever you are, wherever you are from, whatever your ethnicity, gender, physical ability, sexual orientation or age… we welcome you into our space. It is important to us that there are many different people who all bring their own perspectives to the work we do. This goes far beyond labels and representation of the communities we belong to. It's an invitation for each individual to show up in their full complexity.

Most of what we do can be adapted to suit individual participants' and trainers' variety of needs. Some activities, however, do require certain abilities to fully interact with the content. These might be auditory, cognitive, emotional, neurological, physical, verbal, or visual. We do our best to accurately describe what participants can expect to be part of before booking on. If you have a physical disability or mental health concerns, we can chat with you to find a way for you to join.

We have a multi-lingual ensemble and offer our events in English, German or Dutch. We have a large number of international participants and people taking part in their second language. Please inquire with us if you have any concerns about the level of languages spoken at our events.

As we grow, we will keep improving our (financial) accessibility.

We accept and encourage feedback from our participants. Here is our (anonymous) feedback form. Should you, at any point before, during or after an event wish to speak to someone about how impro studio might improve its offers to be more accessible and enjoyable for you, please contact us.

accountability and values

Seeing people in all of their creativity and vulnerability brings with it the responsibility to learn to respond in the moment.

We have all followed trainings with people and institutions relevant to what we do and we consider ourselves to be accountable for our own actions. Everyone who works with us brings with them a set of ethics derived from being members within other communities. We are also guided by the traditions in which we grew up, the laws of our societies, and the group conscience of our generations.

Improvisation is at its best when our skills, resources and values converge to meet the needs of the current moment. Here is the moral compass which we use to navigate our work:

complaints procedure

We strive to align our intentions, words, and actions. However, in the words of Alfred Korzybski: "A map is not a territory." We may stumble, make mistakes, disagree, or hit an impasse.

We are open and willing to have difficult conversations when required.

If you have a concern, question or complaint, or are worried about the behaviour of a fellow improviser, participant or impro studio ensemble member, please talk to your host/trainer or complete this (anonymous) feedback form, informing us that you wish to speak confidentially.

Improvisation values are like a compass, providing orientation
as we traverse the complex territories of life.
