Fall in Love with the Art of Storytelling
Join us on a journey through the lands of metaphor and wonder.
Perhaps you want to tell stories with your family, students or clients. Or maybe you long for a fresh perspective on personal, cultural and societal narratives. We welcome anyone who wants to deepen their relationship with the animate world of stories.
Our lens is the connection between the stories we live and the stories we tell. Our offer to you is a welcoming low-stakes environment where you can practice the art of spontaneous storytelling. We love what we do and hope that you will too!
What we will explore:
In this course we craft and learn from the stories that express who we are and how we relate to our animate world. We will explore what our life looks, smells, moves, feels, and sounds like.
Where do stories come alive?
Who do we meet along the way?
And how do we respond to what we encounter?
The art of storytelling allows us to learn more about our place in the universe. We will travel with and beyond heroes, forests and monsters. Together, we sail the stream of memories from past, present, and dream worlds. This takes us off the well-trodden path, away from the Hero's Journey.
The weekly themes are:
-
The Gift of Names
-
Listening & Guiding
-
Objects & Objectives
-
Heroes & Helpers
-
Forests of Transformation
-
Hopes & Dreams

Who is this course for?
This Living Stories course is built for people who want to hone their storytelling skills. Whether you are interested in speaking, writing, playing or devising, we will gently guide you as you navigate live narrative territory.
The course has deep relevance for professional listeners such as therapists, coaches and carers. It provides inspiration for performing artists like public speakers, authors, and musicians. Meanwhile, educators, community builders, book nerds and knowledge seekers will all find something to write home about.
Living Stories is designed as an interactive journey. Each session is fully participatory and experiential in big groups and small breakout rooms. Therefore, this course is for people who want to connect with other participants during the sessions.
We ask of all of our participants to practice self-care and reflect on their participation. As we engage in a wide range of activities, everyone will at some point try something new. Improvisation is unpredictable and can take us out of our comfort zone.
If you believe that you've never told a 'good' story before or haven't the slightest clue where to begin to tell a tale, this is a great place to start. And if you're a seasoned storyteller, you know there's always another path yet to be discovered.
What is it NOT for?
Living Stories is NOT an outcome focused step-by-step programme to make you a "better" storyteller. We don't use scaffolds like the Story Spine. We don't present prepared stories to each other and we don't give each other feedback on the quality of our storytelling. Our focus lies on experiencing joy of spontaneous sharing during the course.
Living Stories is NOT a performance course. If you are a seasoned performer used to making up fictional characters and narrative arcs, please note that here we tell true stories from our personal lives. While we use activities from improvisation theatre practices, we don't use specialised theatrical language and don't perform scenes. Our approach means showing up as ourselves here and now.
Should you currently be in very difficult life circumstances or require personal support to be able to engage in group activities, we ask that you wait with signing up until you are in calmer waters. If you are not sure about your participation, please book a call with us first.
How can I prepare for the course?
There are no requirements in terms of storytelling or improvisation experience. This course is open to people from all backgrounds. The course language is English and we regularly have non-native English speaking participants from all over the world.
Some practical preparation on the day is helpful:
-
A quiet private space from which you can fully participate
-
Working camera and microphone
-
Stable internet connection
-
Pens and paper for note-taking and doodles
-
A drink and maybe even a little snack

what people say
This course was a delight. A feast of play and fun. A rummage through the attic of imagination. A wonderful exploration of what makes us tick.
- Living Stories participant
I feel you create a container for playfulness, experimentation, thought and newness which is produced through a combination of all those participating. To be part of the session means playing with ideas, some familiar seeds, some novel - and with those seeds tended to, comes so much wishing...
- Davina Burgess
I am enjoying the depth of the work and play, and the variation of the exploration. The interchange with the participants is brilliant. It is a growing portal to this wonderful philosophy of developing the collaboration between people being encouraged, and allowed to express and experience their deeper authentic selves.
- Robert Lowe
What I've enjoyed most are the experiences with others, our learning about ourselves & each other because it's relevant and safe for us to bring our unique experiences, disciplines & crafts, our wherewithal & our differences, our creativity & playfulness fairly and honestly to the project together.
I recommend the course!
